Why Karan Johar Sucks

I don't care how much he's hyped up in the industry. I know quite a few friends in the industry who have some very interesting tidbits about his personal life. But I am not here to take shots at him personally. I don't care about his personal life. All I care is the shitty work he puts out, and worst of all people tend to put him in the same category as say - Yash Chopra, where he obviously doesn't belong.

With his recent spate of films based on NRI characters, mostly based in the west (US and UK), he has proven to me that his fantasy life is filled with cheesy characters with even cheesier lines. His movies are as shallow as they come, which keep revolving around the flashy, and glittery lifestyle, which, by the way, he gets wrong almost every time. I suggest he really does some homework on the "NRI lifestyle" that he seems so fascinated about. Case in point, his scene in "Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna" where he foolishly tries to introduce Shahrukh Khan as a soccer star living in New York. As always, he just thought soccer would be a cool sport to showcase, and then without doing any homework on the sports (or the players, or the MSL), he simply went ahead with a five minute scene focused on the feet of a single player who had the possession of the ball the whole time - no concept of passing the ball or numerous different tricks that he could have easily employed only if he cared enough to do some research into the sport. Of course that player is revealed to be Shahrukh Khan who has this terrible looking, obviously fake tattoo of "victory" on his fore-arm. It was same with "Kuch Kuch hota hai" and his whole basketball scene where it was downright painful to watch Shahrukh Khan and Kajol dribble the ball aimlessly and shooting hoops if you want to call it that. So, am I pissed off "just" because he didn't get the scene right, and it was something you would expect from a C-grade director? Damn right, I am. More so, because he claims to be the biggest shit in the industry right now. Nothing wrong with adding style to your movies, or making your stars larger than life, but there is a whole lot of hard work that goes into it to do that. You have to be creative enough to get your point across without making it look you are trying so hard.
Aamir Khan, who we like to call a perfectionist (I would simply call him someone who tries to do his job right), is already a way better director than KJo with "Taare Zameen Par". And by the way, does any one remember Amitabh Bacchan's line in "Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham" when he gets off his chopper and goes "Nice machine. I should buy a couple more of these". God, I can just throw up cheese vomit just by describing this whole scene.
More on this to come on the blog.. but for now, I've wasted enough time from my precious Sunday already.
